How I make sparkly art inspired by the local burlesque scene - a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process.
I want to show you all of the steps my sparkly masterpieces have to go through before they bloom into the full butterfly of beads and rhinestones that is the final result. Have you ever wondered how all of that beauty comes together? Are you curious about the creative process that comes up with this gorgeousness? I will show you behind the scenes in my Humble Home Studio, and let you in on a little of my genius/madness.
I start with the frames - I’m looking for sizes that canvases will fit into, good condition, and style obviously. I learned a few lessons about buying the correct sized frames for my art mission, and it’s getting a little more streamlined but it still takes time and effort! It’s a true labor of love though - I really enjoy vintage stores and collecting things, and frames are always so pretty! It’s a fun part of the job to hunt them down, and to build a collection.
I threw a picture of my tasty snack in there too because even my food is beautiful haha
I paint the canvases in groups of two or three, giving them a cohesive color palette, and a family resemblance. But after that they are paired up with the frame that best suits them, and this inspires the direction that I take with the jewelry and accessories. It’s like playing dress up or with Barbies, just a little more abstract. It’s like the perfect outfit! You’ve got to have nice hair, the clothes, but also the jewelry and accessories - it’s the whole package and you need every bit to make it just right.
Did you notice my hammer?? Even my tools are cute.
Here’s a little closer look at these masterpieces in progress - painted with the same paints but unique from each other.
There are some less-fun steps that involve hammers, screws and wire to make each painting hang-able, but there are also fun parts of the process like photo-shoots! There needs to be good pictures for the website, marketing and promotional content, yada-yada haha. It’s tedious but I enjoy being able to flex my creative muscles on this part too. You gotta wear a lot of different hats when you own your own business, don’t you? I have a bunch of different roles I have to fulfill if I want to fill up your walls with beauty and art!
There are quite a few transformations that each hand-crafted piece takes before it’s ready to go up on my website, or up on a physical wall to be displayed (and enjoyed), but I enjoy every minute of it. I hope you can feel the love in that - maybe enough to take it home with you to spread some joy and sparkle throughout your own life??
I give you an even closer look on my very famous vlog - because I know you just want to see even more sparkly, glamorous artwork. I chat a little more about the inspiration behind some of my newest pieces - my burlesque friends! They are my glittery muses and a few of my pieces are my attempt to capture their essence in mosaic form - I use the colors of their costumes, I consider the types of movements they make on stage, and even what I know of them off stage, their human-forms as I like to call it.
It’s an amazing form of artistic expression and I’ve enjoyed getting to know these people! I’ve learned so much about the art of performance and the different ways that folks are doing it, and I have been so blessed to combine forces with them to bring audiences a truly excellent experience. I’m not surprised that this new-found love made it’s way into this new art project too, I’m smitten. They’re all so glamorous in their own individual ways and I want to make little 3D odes to them!!!!
